Dunamix Jazz Attire Standards:

All jazz students must have hair off the neck, in a pony tail, braid, etc. Hair must remain neat throughout class so it does not distract training.

Leggings and a leotard should be worn to jazz classes. Leggings that are rolled up around the Achilles tendon or calf cut off circulation to the foot and ankle, and therefore is not ideal for training, healing or muscle development.

Dancers can wear socks, go barefoot, or wear jazz shoes, foot turners, etc.

All dancers level 2/3 and up are required to wear a black leotard or tank top and black leggings to all classes. On Friday colored leotards will be permitted. Black shorts are allowed when the weather is hot.

The following is an outline of the traditional program of the study of dance. This course can be used as a model for any student who wants to advance their technique. It can be applied to other dance forms as well. If this program is pursued aggressively, it can produce an entry level, professional dancer by the time the student becomes 17-19 years old. The progress of the student is a matter of personal choice and commitment. One does not advance a level by getting older, but by mastering more advanced levels of Artistry & Technique. You can begin dance training at any age. To become a professional, it is recommended that training begin between 6-9 yrs of age, but many dancers who started much later at our studio have received college scholarships for dance and worked in the dance industry. We believe there is hope for every dancer!

Pre-Professional Course of Study for Jazz

For the purposes of this schedule, it is assumed that each level will take approximately 18 months to complete.

The actual progress of any individual will probably vary from this, based on many factors. If technique regresses for ANY reason, a student may be required to move down a level until they regain the strength to take the more advanced classes.

Level I- Beginning Jazz - 1 or 2 classes per week depending on physical coordination or maturity.

Level II- Jazz 1- Working on the basics of technique, leaps and turns. The student can expect to take 3 – 4 classes per week.

Level III-Beginning Virtuosity/Artistry-Jazz 2-2/3- Working with the music, subtlety of expression and gesture. The student can expect to take 4 – 5 classes per week, plus 1 class in another dance style.

Level IV- Intermediate/Intermediate-Advanced Virtuosity/Artistry- Perfecting technique previously learned and learning advanced steps- The student can expect to take 5- 6 classes per week, plus 3-4 classes in other dance styles. Increasing quality, multiple turns, higher jumps, some acrobatics, etc. Solo classes and private coaching are highly recommended.
